New Jersey Divorce Attorney Discusses the Types of Alimony

As an experienced New Jersey Divorce Attorney, I am often asked about the different type of alimony in New Jersey.

    • Rehabilitation Alimony – Allows the spouse to have a cushion of money for five years until they are able to get back into the working world. This requires the spouse to have a plan of action of they plan on doing this.
    • Limited Duration Alimony – This is for a set period (up to ten years) that will need to be paid. The spouse does not need a plan of action.
    • Open Duration Alimony – Alimony will not last longer than the duration of the marriage. This is mainly used for marriages over 20 years.
    • Reimbursement Alimony – One spouse has paid for the education of the other, and are required to pay back those education fees.
